Lust List: Slip-on Sneakers

Perennial cool girls, Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen inked a sneaker (I know – sneakers?!) partnership between their brand, The Row and Superga.  And since then, the formidable fashion duo has been sporting (pun semi intended) sneakers about town.

Mary Kate, and fashionable street stylers, have taken the favorite sneaker of the skater boys I went to middle school with and made them cool again.

I think they are perfect for a run around town.  With a skinny ankle jean, a slim, deep v tee; when your style that day is more baller than ballerina.  Of course, the trend is easy to pick up and the styles are available in just about every price point.  For my money, I’m going classic with a pair of updated and metallic leather Vans.  I know, I never thought I’d see the days when a pair of Vans would be on my lust list.

Summer Shine

I’m not a big product girl – like, didn’t own concealer until this last year kind of a non-product girl.  But, this summer, with the sweat inducing heat, less makeup is definitely more.

I made an accidental purchase at CVS not long ago when I was looking for a replacement to a cracked blush/bronzer duo powder.  The accident is that what I purchased is a cream, but happily it is super light, add just a pinch of color and a touch of sparkle.

For as cheesy as this sounds, like little $12 product (at CVS, Target, etc) does add a nice “visible lift,” its easy to apply if you just find the apples of your cheeks and doesn’t streak or crease no matter how hot it is.

Be pretty this summer and save a pretty penny!

A Hands Free Summer – Purse Ideas

Summer and its festivals, baseball games, picnics and afternoons outside doesn’t mix well with the traditional carry-everything you don’t need on the weekends purse.

To the rescue: the perfect, hands-free cross body bag!  My favorite is at the bottom! Cross Body Purses

Fall Trends: Ladylike Leather for Fall

The runways for Fall 2012 featured several shows with leather clad models.  The look, while typically personifying an edgy sex kitten character was ladylike and sophisticated.  Slim shapes, flattering seams, longer hemlines offset the sleek leather for a feminine style.

Jessica Alba got an early jump on the leather trend and proved you can rock (studded!) leather in the summer and look just as flawless.

Now make the look your own, for a lot less!

Summer Sale – BCBG

I stumbled across (or rather specifically sought out) the sale at BCBG.  And wouldn’t you know I assembled quite the little wish list.

Here are my favorites – in shades of black and blue they’d work for summer and beyond.  And, while I like them all, I am particularly (completely and totally) smitten with the sparkly tuxedo tunic on the right.

Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa – For Less

This weekend when I was running around Macy’s looking for bedding – which I did not find – I found something even better.  A capsule collection from Calvin Klein’s Francisco Costa!

Over the last few years, Costa has been the go-to for Hollywood’s top ingenues who are turning heads in simple sheaths and sophisticated silhouettes.  Emma Stone and Claire Danes both wore Calvin Klein in sherbet hues to the Golden Globes and Jennifer Lawrence took a stunning turn in Calvin Klein at the Academy Awards.

The collection for Macy’s is in pared down neutrals but is similarly chic in its simplicity.

These are my favorites – all retailing for under $185.  What do you think?

Missoni for Target, a Budget Fashionista’s dream

If you are so lucky to be able to access the Missoni collection on Target today, consider yourself very lucky and get to shopping.  I am a documented Missoni fan, and to date have only been able to lust over that multicolor chevron knit.

But, if the Target server’s cooperate, this is what I want…  (Italian drum roll, please)

Jewel Tones for Fall 2011

One of my favorite trends off of the Fall 2011 Runways was the boldness of color in every jewel tone.

Pamella Roland, Carolina Herrera, Alice + Olivia

The applications have been endless:  color blocking, monochromatic,  and color family pairings.

Eva Longoria in Victoria Beckham

Jennifer Lopez in Gucci

Sarah Jessica Parker in Prabal Gurung via InStyle

So, how do you get this bright and still very sophisticated look? Pick classic and simple shapes, pick bold (and skin tone flattering) colors, take some risks and be confident.

So, now that I have reviewed my favorite Fall 2011 trends, which is your favorite?

Printed Lady for Fall 2011

This summer I was in love with tribal inspired prints and patterns and was excited to see more of the same on the Fall 2011 Runways.  For Fall the look is still exotic but perhaps because of the darker and richer colors, the chartreuse, gold, plums, and berries it feels richer, a bit more regal, but still very well traveled.

La Bohome: Oscar de la Renta, Naeem Khan, L.A.M.B.

My favorite ways to replicate that high-end, runway look are here:

Are you into prints for fall?  Would you wear this very bold and colorful look?

Deco for Fall 2011

I have always loved the art deco aesthetic.  Growing up in South Florida it wasn’t uncommon to take a day trip to South Beach and see the old art deco hotels (Colony, Raleigh, National) and go to the Art Deco Show on Ocean Drive.  Similarly I have had the opportunity to play dress up in, and admire the jewelry of my nanny and nana who have collected in this style for many years.  So, it was quite a delight to see it on the Fall 2011 Runways.

The look of the art deco style is draped silks and fabrics, a dramatic but skinny v-neckline, sleek hair, dresses galore, sparkle, and large often geometric bejeweled bracelets, rings and earrings.

My favorites from the runway:

Deco for Fall: Ralph Lauren, Tracy Reese, Naeem Khan

What is lovely about the art deco style is that there is simplicity in the silhouette but not without making a statement.  Even a simple black dress can make a bold statement with this kind of execution.

So, lucky for us (me!) J.Crew has done a fall collection of art deco inspired jewelry with Lulu Frost, a jewelry brand founded in 2004 by Lisa Salzer.  Here are some of my favorites for your jewelry box.
