Weddings: The Beautiful Bohemian

mara hoffman weddingHow stunning is this photo?  Mara Hoffman, a runway favorite for her exotic prints and wanderlusty designs, is offering a bridal collection that take the road less traveled for windswept wedding moment.

Not getting married anytime soon – or again? – many of the pieces from her “Devotion” (which I love) collection are totally appropriate for a beach vacation or sunnier days!

Here are a few favorites:

Wedding Dress Code: Decoded

Dress codes are tough, especially for weddings.  There are at least a few rules – you know, never wear white, no clubwear, etc.  But, instead of thinking about what not to wear, let’s think about what to wear.

Here are some solutions and inspiration for the wedding that is called “Beach formal.”

Screen shot 2013-07-21 at 12.20.28 PMThe trick for floating through a wedding that is beachy-keen is to think light: light colors, fabrics and accessories.

You’re not wearing a beach cover-up, but rather a dress in linen, jersey or cotton blend.  Choose colors, that are not white, but celebrate the season and make you look radiant with your own summery glow.

Your accessories should be light, too.  What do you need to carry after all?  A phone, a lipgloss and a pair of keys?  Keep it cool with lucite for an extra pop of fun, raffia and natural fabrics.  For jewelry, one statement piece is all the statement you need to make.  For footwear, a little sparkle is great, but skip the staggering heel which is never a friend to the sand.

Key (Lime) to My Heart, Miami Wedding Inspiration

You can take the girl out of South Florida, but you really can not take the South Florida out of the girl.  The colors, flavors, the sounds, the history were all influences for this city chic wedding inspiration board.

Miami Wedding Inspiration

For the ceremony I was inspired by clean lines and wanted to capture the quintessential lounge vibe of South Beach.  For the bridal gown, the emphasis was on old Miami glamor and the Art Deco era aesthetic.  Otherwise, the Miami inspired wedding is all about color, and doing away with the rules.  Bright colors and mismatched maids, mini foods, bold bites, bright flowers and citrus punch.

This inspiration board is as playful as it is sophisticated.  I think it translates to wedding look that is on trend, without being trendy.

Does this make you ready for a beachy vacation?  Table for two, Nobu.

Beach Wedding, Inspired

A friend is getting married on the beach in North Carolina, (soon!) and had lots of ideas.  When I was in a similar situation it helped me to make an inspiration board, and so I made some for her as well.

The bride has a beautiful beach-front location for her ceremony, and a reception on the pier (pictured below).  She has a stunning gown, and her bridesmaids will wear teal dresses, her groom and groomsmen will wear black suits.

She knew that she wanted a wedding that was fun, romantic, and reflective of who they are as a couple and the location of the wedding.

A wedding with a theme is a funny thing.  If you’ve ever seen an episode of “My Fair Wedding with David Tutera” you know what I mean; nearly any theme can be executed, how well it is done is in the details.   And, I love working on the details.

If you, or a friend, or a friend of a friend is getting married or throwing any type of event and needs help turning their ideas into inspiration, let me know!

Inspiration for a Beachy Keen Wedding

I spotted this dress by Milly a few weeks ago.

I loved it.  I love the classic shape, the neckline, the full skirt, the playful pop of color and how it just screams, to me at least, “Summertime!”

It is still too cold to dress in a dress this cute, but inspiration knows no season.

I thought sand, cold beers, bright flowers, knot details to “tie-the-knot” with, sweet starfish, birchwood ceremony space, and heartfelt details.

P.s. you know I am a sucker for all things “cute food” so I could not resist the idea of the mini caviar bites or the packaged s’mores.

What is inspiring you this Wednesday?
