Shoe Week: Building Blocks

Fall is a tough season, and this year fashion (and footwear) is following suit.  This season’s hottest pumps with a thick and square heel are a study in architecture; they toe the line between retro platform and modern sculpture.

They are heel and toe ahead of the competition and won’t get knocked over easily.

Shoe Week: Smoking Season

Spring’s sweet ballet flat is replaced by fall’s moody, groovy smoking flat.

It’s daytime and night time ready, and pulls inspiration from all places including the leisure life (a la Hef) to the market bazaar.  These kick around flats are perfect with a mini skirt or a slim pant, and don’t be afraid of color or prints, this season it is the more the merrier.

Shoe Week: Red, Red, Wine

Burgundy is the color of the fall season, and I’m just about punch-drunk in love with the color as it makes its way into the wardrobe from head to toe.  Over the weekend I envisioned the pump I wanted: sleek, tall, shine, in a bold burgundy.  With very little whining required, I found the wine to pair with my stems – thanks, Ivanka.

I’m loving the idea of a flash of burgundy, a splash of wine, peeking out beneath the perfect hem of a trouser, or as a fashion star with a dress.

Shoe Week: Riding Boots for Fall

With cooler temperatures and the arrival of fall literally nipping at our heels, this week is dedicated to fall’s shoe trends.  First up, a favorite fall must-have of mine, a fierce pair of boots that are as tough as they are refined.

Cool. Chic. Ready for Fall.

Look for Less: Statement Earrings

I have been loving the jewelry from Monique Pean for quite some time.  The major investment pieces (seriously, these prices are not for the faint of heart!) are truly unique and have become a favorite of fashion fan, Michelle Obama.

The brand is committed to creating luxury pieces that are produced socially and environmentally responsibly and from sustainable materials.

I love the look of made-from-nature geometric shapes, rough cut stones, and one of a kind pieces that make a statement with a gown or a tank top.

Here is one my favorite, awe-worthy investment pieces:

In the look for less, (way, way less!) category are these statement making stunners from Kendra Scott.

What do you think?  Gorgeous or gauche?

Ladylike Leopard for Fall

The leopard trend has come a long way from Peg Bundy for this leopard trend.  Beyonce, Anna Wintour, street-style masters wear it with aplomb.  Are you intimidated by this wild streak, and don’t want to show your spots in the urban jungle?
Here are some chic ideas to make it your own.  Copy cats welcomed!

DKNY x FEED: Fashion for Good

DKNY has a new collaboration capsule collection with FEED, the hunger preventing nonprofit led by social activist/designer/model Lauren Bush.

The collection has three pieces: brilliant collapsible (read: easy to pack) rain boots, a city survival tote and umbrella, and a diaper bag.

In the sweetest way, the diaper bag especially makes me smile, with the large ‘FEED’ on one side, I envision a mommy or daddy does a lot of feeding when toting this chic bag about town.

So, what makes this fashion “good”?  Each diaper bag purchase will provide 1 mother and 1 child with a year’s supply of mirconutrient powder through the United Nations World Food Programme.

Be chic, do good.

August Must Haves: Color, Shine, Sparkle

August is here and it is a tricky style month; you have one flip-flopped foot in summer and the other booted up for fall.

Here are a few of my favorite, ooh and ahh worthy must haves for August!Shop: Sip/Stack 1/2/3/Strut

Fall Trends: Ladylike Leather for Fall

The runways for Fall 2012 featured several shows with leather clad models.  The look, while typically personifying an edgy sex kitten character was ladylike and sophisticated.  Slim shapes, flattering seams, longer hemlines offset the sleek leather for a feminine style.

Jessica Alba got an early jump on the leather trend and proved you can rock (studded!) leather in the summer and look just as flawless.

Now make the look your own, for a lot less!

What to do this Weekend: Cheer on the Home Team

The Olympics start tonight!  I am a big Olympics fan.  I am a big Olympics fan and I grew up in a house where it meant serious trouble to announce who won a race before their was a chance to watch it on delay… these were the days before DVR.

Every Games has unique stories and stars.  As a kid I cheered on the “Magnificent 7” women’s gymnastics team to gold in 1996, was awe struck by Flo Jo and Michael Johnson and got goose bumps from the pomp and circumstance of the Opening Ceremonies.
